Anger & Emotional Regulation Accountability Program (AERAP)
Structured individual psychotherapy for people who want to better understand anger, regulate intense emotions, take accountability for their behaviour, and develop healthier ways of responding to conflict.
When Anger Starts Creating Consequences
Anger is a normal human emotion. The difficulty begins when anger becomes difficult to regulate and starts affecting relationships, family life, work, decision-making, or behaviour.
AERAP is an individual psychotherapy program for people who want to understand what drives their reactions, recognize patterns that contribute to escalation, and develop greater control over how they respond when emotions run high.
The focus is not on eliminating anger. It is on developing the insight, emotional regulation, accountability, and behavioural skills needed to respond differently when anger matters most.
A Structured Psychotherapy Program
AERAP is not simply an anger management class or a series of educational exercises. It is an individualized psychotherapy program that examines the emotional, cognitive, relational, and behavioural patterns contributing to anger and escalation.
Treatment is tailored to the individual while maintaining a structured focus on accountability, emotional regulation, insight, and behavioural change.
More Than Anger Management
Managing anger is important. But lasting change often requires understanding what happens before the reaction.
AERAP goes beyond strategies for simply “calming down.” Therapy examines the patterns that contribute to escalation and helps clients recognize the point at which thoughts, emotions, physiological activation, and behaviour begin to reinforce one another.
✓ Individual psychotherapy rather than a one-size-fits-all class
✓ Understanding triggers and patterns that contribute to escalation
✓ Accountability for behaviour without reducing the person to the behaviour
✓ Emotional regulation and conflict-management skills
✓ Applying new responses to real-life situations and relationships
Understanding What Happens Before the Anger
Anger is often the emotion that becomes visible. Underneath it may be experiences such as hurt, fear, rejection, shame, frustration, perceived disrespect, loss of control, or feeling unheard.
AERAP helps clients slow the process down and understand what happens between a triggering event and the behaviour that follows.
✓ Recognize emotional and physiological warning signs
✓ Identify triggers, interpretations, and underlying emotions
✓ Understand learned patterns of reacting to conflict
✓ Develop greater tolerance for frustration and emotional discomfort
✓ Create space between feeling an emotion and acting on it
How the Program Works
AERAP is delivered through individual psychotherapy, allowing treatment to address the client's specific patterns, circumstances, and goals while maintaining a structured focus on anger, emotional regulation, accountability, and behavioural change.
Treatment typically progresses through assessment, understanding patterns and triggers, developing regulation and communication skills, applying those skills to real situations, and reviewing progress over time.
✓ Individual psychotherapy sessions
✓ Initial assessment and individualized treatment goals
✓ Structured therapeutic work between sessions where appropriate
✓ Ongoing review of insight, regulation, and behavioural progress
✓ Program documentation available where appropriate

What Clients Work Toward

✓ Understanding the thoughts and emotions driving reactions
✓ Regulating emotional and physiological activation
✓ Communicating anger without aggression or intimidation
✓ Managing conflict without escalation
✓ Taking responsibility without becoming trapped in defensiveness or shame
✓ Repairing harm where appropriate
✓ Developing healthier responses that can be sustained outside therapy
Documentation & Progress Reporting

Documentation may include:
✓ Confirmation of enrolment
✓ Attendance and participation
✓ Areas addressed during treatment
✓ Progress toward identified therapeutic goals
✓ Program completion where applicable
✓ Clinical observations where appropriate
Change the Pattern, Not Just the Reaction
Anger does not have to disappear for behaviour to change.
The goal is to recognize what is happening earlier, understand the patterns that drive escalation, and develop the ability to make a different choice when emotions are intense.
AERAP provides a structured therapeutic environment for doing that work.
